Lay of the day
Lay of the day (2.00 Uttoxeter) Factotum stayed on well enough for third at Kempton last time, but he may be better suited by further in time and could be vulnerable to a speedier sort. Likely longshot (4.00 Uttoxeter) San Antonio has slipped to what looks an attractive mark and with form on fast ground on the Flat, he looks capable of mounting a strong challenge on his first run for two months. Longest traveller (2.10 Plumpton) Irish raider Dun Drinan has struggled over fences of late, but is much better handicapped over timber so should be there or thereabouts in this. Trainer trends (3.55 Leopardstown) Aidan O'Brien has won this Derby trial five times since 2001 and he saddles Fame And Glory. A good winner of t2/7 Ballysax Stakes last time, he oozes class and should be good enough. Deja vu (2.50 Southwell) It's been a case of all or nothing with Kilrogan of late, but he won this race last year and though 9lb higher, he is considered if producing his best. Drop in class (5.00 Uttoxeter) Seraglio was outclassed in a Listed bumper at Aintree but her previous effort when second at Southwell gi3/7 her every chance now dropped into what looks a more suitable grade. Moving house (4.50 Southwell) Sheila's Castle raced just once for Irish maestro Willie Mullins and finished fifth. She is interesting on her debut for new handler Sean Regan. Perfect partners (2004-2009) Daniel Mullins has a good record riding for Jim Bolger, so a big run from Aaroness would be no surprise in 4/7 Leopardstown's 4.25, particularly if she produces her very best form. Top strikers (2004-2009) Evan Williams has an excellent record at Plumpton and he runs Cannon Fire in the 3.10. The 8yo seems to find winning hard to come by, but it's hard to knock his recent form and he could strike. Charlie Mann has a tremendous strike- rate at Southwell and he saddles King Brex in the 3.50. The 6yo wasn't quite at his best at Ludlow last time, b5/7 his previous start at Kempton gives plenty of hope for a better effort. It all points to ... (3.55 L'pardstown) Fame And Glory can book his place in the Derby with victory in this. The colt won a Group 1 in France last year and returned as good as ever in the Ballysax. With Aidan O'Brien's horses all coming on for the run, he looks to have a very bright future ahead of him. Anagram ace Her rockets (runs at Leopardstown) Saturday's solution: Blue Sky Basin Sunday's Selections All looks good for Monk A flat track and decent ground appears to bring out the best in Dominican Monk and he could prove very tough to beat in the 2.50 at Southwell. David Arbuthnot's charge won at Haydock on his penultimate start and was far from disgraced behind the rapidly improving Pepsyrock at Ayr last time. The 10yo has been dropped 2lb for that run which seems very fair, so another big run looks likely in this contest. Sky can shine again Richard Fahey appears to have ironed out Painted Sky's jumping frailties judged on his Sedgefield success and he can land the 3.50 at Southwell. The 6yo was clumsy on his first run for eight months at Newcastle but still kept on well enough to be third, before making no mistake last time. The Rainbow Quest gelding shaped like a horse going places and despite an 11lb rise, he looks likely to figure. Bold show looks likely Extra Bold (nap) has been in sparkling form this year despite tipping up at Leicester in February and he can strike in the 4.30 at Uttoxeter. Richard Lee's charge soon made amends for his Leicester fall when winning at Chepstow last time, jumping fluently bar a solitary blunder two out. The 7yo is improving nicely and though 8lb higher in this contest, he looks to have been found a decent chance. Sunday's selections Southwell 2.50 Dominican Monk 3.50 Painted Sky Uttoxeter 4.30 Extra Bold (nap)
Spots the horses to follow Chester, Friday: Eric Alston has enjoyed plenty of success over sprint trips and another speedy individual emerged from his yard as Doctor Parkes produced a nice turn of foot to score. A decent prize could head his way. Chester, Thursday: Staying On ran a brave race in the Huxley Stakes and he could make up into a smart Group-race performer. The 4yo tried to make all and rallied throughout the closing stages to be beaten just a short head.
Round-Up Will Be Displayed Here Round-Up Will Be Displayed Here Round-Up Will Be Displayed Here Mastery made the best possible debut for Godolphin when the Frankie Dettori- ridden colt landed the Derby Italiano at Rome's Capannelle racecourse. Michael Bell's promising Sariska is among a 10-strong entry as she steps up in distance for Wednesday's Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York. Last year's first two, Geordieland and Royal And Regal, both feature among 12 entries for the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup at York on Friday. Godolphin hope Kite Wood bids to enhance his Investec Derby claims when he has his first run for the operation in Thursday's Dante on the Knavesmire. Connections of impressive Chester winner Harbinger are in no rush to make a decision over his participation in the Investec Derby. Silvestre de Sousa was banned for three days (May 23-25) for excessive use of the whip aboard second-placed Metroland at Haydock. Curragh on Del agenda Delegator could bid for Classic compensation in the Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. Following the colt's second in the Newmarket equivalent last week, trainer Brian Meehan thought Delegator would skip the Curragh, but the Irish Classic is now back in the equation. Meehan told BBC Sport: "He's come out of it well. Ireland is a consideration, we'll make a decision early next week."
